One of our bots has 24 red LEDs in it and has had a few blue ones in there temporarily:

The spindle be on sale in a few weeks most likely. It works great, makes a big difference when you're doing 4 or 5 hours of builds a day.

The length I bought was 3 ft (1m) minimum, it operates on 12V and has 120 LEDs arranged so you can cut the length between sets of 3 LEDs, then strip away the clear casing to access contact points embedded in the cable. A very slick design in many ways. This stuff also comes with a 3M adhesive backing that sticks quite nicely to the inside of my bot.

I went ahead and used the whole length, and just added length to the supplied leads, put a couple of board interface pins on the ends and plugged right into the connector on the ATX power supply.
