I just got my MK5 setup and have the same issue as most people are reporting. My temperature fluctuates +8/-15. Anyone have an MK5 that does not do this (other than those working for/with MakerBot Industries that is)? Something within the same range of the MK4 is ideal.
Has MakerBot acknowledged this as a problem or is it just a small sampling of us?
I will have mine today but probably wont gettingaround to building it until tomorrow.
Hopefully I don't have this problem but I will let you know either way.
I was also wondering where you are supposed to mount the extruder controller and relay board.
I mounted mine right above the motherboard. It really is a personal preference kind of thing. Please let me know, I am interested to know of one MK5 that works. The extent of my fluctuations is a little too unsettling for printing purposes, I have gone back to the MK4 for the time being.

A couple of people have confirmed that P=5.143, I=0.0612, D=108 results in reasonably stable temperature tracking.
Just tried it, no luck there. It could not even reach the target temperature, always stayed 10 degrees below. Even then, I still get fluctuations. Any other different PID settings out there?
Mines working good but one thing is that the power resistors get so hot that they melt the solder where the wires go to power them one came comepletely ubsoldered and disconnected. I've bulked it up and wrapped the wires around the terminals now but if you take the ceramic tape of and touch something to the terminals while it's printing you'll see that the solder is molten and ready to drip. This could be causing temperature changes from the connection going bad. It would probably be better to use connectors like the speaker terminal connectors used on audio speakers.

the temperature does seem to fluctuate if i set replicatorg to monitor it while printing but it doesnt seem to effect the print quality.
i've been printing non stop since friday fine tuning skeinforge to get the best possible print and have not had any problems other than the solder melting.
I think around 5 to 10 degrees. It's stays between 210 and 220 I think.
And that has no effect on your print? Mine is a little more volatile, +8/-15. I am on the fence on whether to go ahead with a print or not. Just don't want to ruin anything. ( I have had the worse luck with my bot and it is finally up and running)
ATa0921, you wrote that it "could not even reach the target temperature, always stayed 10 degrees below". I ran into the same thing with my Mk4 when I was using 2.2 extruder firmware. Updating to 2.3 fixed that instantly. Is your firmware up to date?
I put the relay board above the motherboard (I'd already mounted it with the MK4). For the extruder controller, I drilled the extruder mount, just above the arch) and placed it just like the MK4. Then I realized I had to move the extruder mount back an inch so it would clear the top of the case.
Seems to work ok so far… no builds yet… other problems.
As for temp, It fluctuated between 215 and 227 with the MK4 PID settings. When I changed to the settings clothbot mentioned, it now runs between 215 and 223.
The interesting thing is the MK4 settings gave me a nice sinewave temperature fluctuation, up to 227, down to 215, back to 227… But the MK5 settings are almost random, and yet the graph is much more consistant. Overall it still fluctuates from 219 +/- 4.
