I put mine in the back of my Acura standing up normally. It fell over but was unharmed. I would definitely bag it horizontally. I find it to be surprisingly durable.

I pack mine in a clear rubbermaid type box, lying on it's back. I've had no problems moving it, pulling it out of the box and having it print right away. I use rolls of filament in bags as packing material.

I've done both ways — the big rubbermaid tub full of parts.

For smaller gigs (like this weekend) I just carry it by the frame, and carry my stuff in a duffel. Worked great.

It just fits in the Pelican 1620 I used for my cupcake. If I were buying new I'd go with a Pelican 1630 or 1640; the 12.54" depth is just barely enough for a ToM if you don't use any of the foam inserts.
