No you don't understand… Ubuntu right now and basically anything written for linux GUI currently uses a more modern type of file browsing. For some reason, the developers for ReplicatorG (linux) is using an antiquated/outdated file browsing library. It should not be hard for the ReplicatorG coders to change this, to use one of the newer file browsing systems.

Maybe there is some reason they don't? Maybe they have other stuff on their plate that they want to work on first? There could be many reasons why they don't.

I was just curious, thought I'd ask here, since this is the only place I know to ask where people use RepG (linux), if there was some way to enable double click folder browsing (possibly it is an option that can be selected at compile time, say if I were to compile it myself, or maybe some other trick?)

Hmm, I don't like the unity desktop much anyway… too…. alien.

I showed the screenshot of the replicatorg file browser to some people in the #ubuntu channel on irc and they say it (repg) is using the old gtk file chooser dialog….

Strange that it works fine when you don't use the Unity Desktop Manager… because every other program I use, seems to use a more up to date file browser (double-clicking, thumbnails, support for renaming and copying and everything, all within the file -> open dialog)… with the exception of RepG.

I guess I will try the old desktop now… see what happens.

Ok, I switched off Unity desktop…. still got the same crappy file browser in RepG and RepG alone.

All other applications use a much better file browser.

I would have no issue with the file browser, if it would just let me double click folders to open them. And I asked in other linux groups, and they all say the same thing, contact the vendor and ask for a feature upgrade or change the code yourself.

But I find this hard to believe if you (Ed) can double click on folders to navigate through your file system in the file -> open menu, in RepG.
