Hi
I'm thinking about getting a Makerbot to do some rapid prototyping for the design work I do. I'd really like to see the quality of the pieces to make sure it will do what I want.
At the moment I get rapid prototyping done by output bureaus. I'm happy with the results, but their machines are much more expensive. Having my own would save time and money, but would only work if I could get samples in the quality I want.
I've been told the items can be sanded and polished to get a good finish. That might work well with something like a door stop, but some of the items I design require more precision, like two sides of a camera shell that have to fit together. Some photos I've seen show detailed sculptures in what looks like great detail, others show simple shapes that look very rough and glommy. I'm wondering if they all look kind of rough really close up.
Can anyone could make a piece from an stl file I send them and mail me the piece. If so let me know and we can figure out a price based on the files.
Close up photos or comments regarding this are appreciated as well.
Thanks!
