Howdy folks,
I've been running my TOM for a little over a month now, and have noticed that the steppers can get pretty warm, especially the extruder stepper. It has jammed twice and I caught it within a few minutes, but the motor would be so hot you wouldn't want to touch it. However even during normal operation it gets reasonably warm I would estimate somewhere in the 140F range. Pretty warm I think.
The x and y axis motors also get pretty warm too, but I have limited access to them to tell exactely how hot.
I was wondering because I saw a ball bearing filament driver that I think is a great long term improvment, however, I'm afraid to put the ABS plastic directly in contact with the stepper for fear that it might get to hot and deform.
I have triple checked my stepper motor pots and they are all properly calibrated to Makerbot specs.
Does anyone who has been doing this for a while have any information on the subject?
Thanks
