Overview
This page lists the various solutions for adding an LCD display and on-board control panel to a Cupcake. With these, un-tethered/computer-less monitoring and printing is possible. These are advanced modifications requiring third-party hardware and experimental firmware. The solutions currently available are:
- Zaggo's Extruder solution
- Revar's Motherboard solution
- Tony Buser's iControl Panel
Zaggo/Pleasant Software's Solution
Zaggo added an LCD display to the extruder board of his Cupcake in November 02009. This solution enables monitoring of extruder and heated build platform temperatures. He has two posts describing the mod on the Pleasant Software blog: LCD on a MakerBot, More LCD testing. It requires custom code available in the G3Firmware repository on GitHub.
Hardware
- I2C Adapter
- LCD Display
- Wiring (TBD)
Firmware
- Extruder firmware (version compatibility?)

Revar's Solution
Revar Desmera added an LCD display and 16-key keypad to the motherboard of his MakerBot in February 02010. His solution utilizes hardware components from Modtronix in Australia, and custom code modifications. This solution enables un-tethered printing, file selection on the SD card, printing gcode files, and most functions of the ReplicatorG Control Panel.
